- Groceries
Moving in is a long and grueling process, and it's possible that after all is said and done hitting the grocery store has slipped to the bottom of the to-do list. A gift card to their new local supermarket might be a welcome gift as they're settling into their new place. Better yet, drop in with some essentials to stock the fridge, or offer to pick up and deliver what they need.
*Many grocery stores offer curbside pick-up, or even delivery (like Giant's Peadpod service). This might be a nice option if your friends or family want to save time on shopping, as they can order online ahead of time. - Move-in Help
If you're close enough and free to help out on moving day, offering to share some of the misery is an excellent idea. Though not exactly a gift, family and friends will appreciate you being there to tote some of their things to and from the moving truck. Bonus points if you can lift the heavy stuff. Double bonus points if you have a truck! - Maid Service
Once they're settled in, cleaning might be the farthest thing from their minds. Hiring a maid service on their behalf for a few cleanings might not be a gift you've thought of, but we're sure it's one they'll appreciate it! - Care package
A move-in care package can be a great way to provide a cute, but useable gift for new homeowners. Find a basket, and fill it with things you think they might need to jump start life in their new home. Some good ideas for your basket: toilet paper, paper towels, light bulbs, a mini-measuring tape, felt furniture feet to protect their new floors, trash bags, a box cutter.
Pack it full, and deliver it to their front door on moving day or just after. - Home-cooked Meal
If you really want to make a stand-out housewarming gift, food is the way to the heart! Pizza and fast food can only be eaten once or twice before they start to get old, and your friends and family are likely not able to cook properly until they've had time to unpack the kitchen.
Bring over a nice home-cooked meal, and serve it picnic style, being sure to bring paper plates and disposable utensils (or better yet, reusable plates and cutlery). Their bellies and hearts will be thankful for it.
- Lawn Service
If you know they don't have access to lawn care equipment, or if it's the first time they've had to deal with yard maintenance, find a reputable mowing service in their area. Book them to come and take care of the grass a couple of times. The new homeowners (and likely their HOAs) will be thankful.
